WTAE-TV: 'Love' Drug May Save Lives, Help People Breathe Easier
Adcirca Being Prescribed for Pulmonary Hypertension
April 01, 2010Christina Wolford has lived with pulmonary hypertension for the last 15 years. The disease makes it difficult to breathe, makes her feel tired and, when she's not on medication, she can pass out.
Two months ago, Wolford started taking a drug called Adcirca, which is the same thing as Cialis, although the doses are taken a bit differently.
"I did think that was unusual," Wolford told Channel 4 Action News. "It's working."
"Some of the older men we have are like, 'Am I going to get two things for one out of this?' Yeah, they do, to some point," said Dr. George Sokos, a cardiologist at Allegheny General Hospital. "Some of the women are like, 'Do we get that same effect?' Not really."
However, the women taking the drug are getting what doctors intend -- the chance to breathe easily.
